With our church less than 5 miles away from the large campus of Central Michigan University, New Life felt the calling to reach out to the students of CMU in a more personal way. In 1996 the leadership of New Life asked one of its young adult members to consider starting a bible study especially for college students. By the end of the year, a small, core group of about 8 students met every week for a bible study in a room at the back of our church, and “Standing in the Gap” was born. As time passed, more and more students took interest in this new “group” who was ministering on and off campus. In 1999, SITG became a Registered Student Organization on the campus of Central Michigan University. The original young adult who started the core group became the official campus pastor and he began teaching the word of God in a large, stadium-like classroom, ministering to hundreds of students over the years.
Currently, Standing in the Gap has gone back to its roots and is meeting in a small group setting with an informal discussion style. For the summer session, Pastor Brian's studies will be "Rated PG" for Prayer and Growth. All are welcome to attend, CMU student or not. They are meeting at Pastor Brian and Karen's house @ 7:30 every Wednesday evening. After the bible study, everyone likes to hang out and socialize. Talk to Pastor Brian or one of the leadership team to find out more information on meetings OR you can check out our church calendar for special event dates and info!
